This course is intended to provide an introduction to social work with children and young people in the UK, Australia and Austria. We will debate social problems that have been the focus of major social policy initiatives in the field of childrens rights. In order to emphasize the need to integrate both support for people in their social environments, and the impetus for social change, steps to integrate innovative social work interventions are explored. We will analyse the International Federation of Social Workers code of ethics to identify those sections that demand our active involvement as agents of social change. The course discussions and role-play offer interactive and engaging ways to practice being professional in a second language. We also discuss articles from peer-reviewed social work journals. This course offers students a range of strategies for social work practice based on the principles of human rights and social justice. We look forward to exploring the realm of social work with you! |
