Practical IT Security (PSEC) is a course to gain practical knowledge in advanced security topics and at the same time improve soft-skills as an IT security professional. It prepares participation at a (international) capture-the-flag contest as a RWU team. Topics are prepared and trained in a peer-to-pear teaching approach applying Active Learning didactics. Examples for possible topics are: Windows Security and Mimikatz, Kali Linux, Network Scanning, Rust Programming, WiFi Security, Binary Reverse Engineering, and Attacking Large Language Models. The lecture is rounded off by guest presentations of multiple security experts from companies based throughout Germany, giving insights into their daily way of working.

At completion of the course, you will:

• have deep knowledge of one security topic including practical (tool) application
• have broad knowledge in multiple other security topics in theory and practice
• have basic didactic skills in preparation and presentation of a relevant security topic
• be able to transfer acquired knowledge by training others on a relevant security topic
• (be able to participate at a capture-the-flag contest)
